Introducing Vizlib Templates: The Magic Shortcut for Qlik App Development

When you need to create and build a new Qlik Sense app, where do you start?

Perhaps you check out an old app to draw inspiration or browse the Qlik Sense gallery to hunt for a new idea. But most likely, you start with a blank page and build it from scratch.

And while every project requires a tailored approach to answer the questions at hand, certain dataviz elements repeat across various apps and dashboards—especially objects like KPIs, container grids and sheet menu bars.

Since it takes effort to develop amazing dataviz objects, wouldn’t it be great to save your fine chart designs as templates for instant access in the future? Or go a step further and define your own or your company’s defaults for every chart? So, instead of scrambling to reinvent the wheel every time, you could streamline your app development process by applying chart templates in seconds. That’d be nothing short of game-changing, right?

We thought so too! And, today, we’re proud to introduce Vizlib Templates—the future of fast and effective app development in Qlik Sense.

What are Vizlib Templates for Qlik Sense?

Vizlib Templates is a brand new out-of-the-box capability designed to empower Qlik Sense users to streamline their app development process. This new capability will enable you to create branded charts in seconds and drive consistency across your apps.

Pre-designed templates have revolutionised the way we interact with various functions of the business. From website templates and code snippets to Excel tables and sales emails—we’ve all benefited from pre-configured templates in our professional lives. So it’s about time we introduce the same convenience and speed to the world of dashboarding!

With the launch of Vizlib Templates, we’re striving to solve four main pain points:

  • Help organisations speed up their development process
  • Allow anyone, of any skill level, to create eye-catching dataviz in seconds
  • Help companies maintain their visual standards without any brand policing
  • Enable organisations to enforce visual governance and establish consistency across their Qlik Sense apps

Here’s what you need to know to get started with Vizlib Templates for Qlik Sense.

Getting started with Vizlib Templates: How to create, manage and set defaults

With the first release, we’re rolling out Vizlib Templates to four extensions within Vizlib Library: the Vizlib KPI Designer, Vizlib Sheet Menu, Vizlib Container Grid and Vizlib Slider. We are planning to introduce this capability to all our value-added products for Qlik Sense over the coming months.

Getting started with Vizlib Templates is easy. All you have to do is download the latest versions of the extensions (click on the link to see the versions) and install them in your Qlik Sense environment. Once that’s complete, you’ll find Vizlib Templates included in the configuration settings in the control panel.

Vizlib Templates includes three different categories:

  1. Public: Vizlib-designed templates available to all Vizlib users.
  2. Published: Templates published within your organisation’s shared space and only accessible to your team.
  3. My templates: Your own personal, unpublished templates that only you and your organisation’s Vizlib admin can access.

Follow our step-by-step tutorials on how to create and manage templates and set template defaults on the user portal.
