QlikView and Qlik Sense: Bridging The Gap

For organisations that have been using QlikView for years, transitioning to Qlik Sense can be both exciting and challenging. The differences in user interfaces and the overall approach to analytics can create a learning curve for existing users.

There is also the question of how to make the most out of the dynamic, collaborative, and powerful Qlik Sense environment. The moment of change following a move to a new platform unlocks huge possibilities!

Vizlib supports your transition to Qlik Sense

Vizlib is your trusted ally in bridging any gap between your QlikView and Qlik Sense environment, and helping you get more out of your data analytics.

Improved customization

We often hear that customers miss some of the visual components and customisation options that were available to them in QlikView, or are looking to recreate the look and feel of legacy dashboards and applications.

Vizlib is all about deeply customisable analytics that meet your most nuanced functional and aesthetic requirements. We take flexibility to the next level with our extensive library of customizable Qlik Sense visualizations and settings.

For example, check out one of our most popular features– the KPI Designer. Layer elements effortlessly, combining charts, metrics, and icons, with full control over the x/y positioning.

This level of customisation ensures that your Qlik Sense environment can meet the unique requirements of your business, just like QlikView did.

Customer Testimonials and Use Cases

Let’s take a moment to hear from some organisations that have successfully bridged the gap from QlikView to Qlik Sense with the help of Vizlib.

Novo Nordisk

“At Novo Nordisk, we try to provide the best BI solutions for our employees, where it can give them valuable insights into their data. Vizlib has provided us with the ability to promote advanced visual analytics as well as self-service application development.

Shakeel Dar, Director – Head of BI Solutions, Novo Nordisk

Novo Nordisk is a leading pharmaceutical company. In 2017, they made the move from Qlik Sense to QlikView.

Following the switch, many users felt they’d lost some functionality. For example, the finance team wanted to include specific fonts, colours, and other high levels of detail within their dashboards and reports. That’s why they adopted Vizliib, to add deeper customisation and more power to Novo Nordisk’s data analytics.

“This is where the journey started because once the finance people started using it more and more, the other teams became interested in using Qlik Sense and Vizlib,” said Metti Mahdizadeh, a BI Business Analyst at Novo Nordisk. “You could create more layouts and modifications, and make the visualisation or report more attractive.”

Vizlib was soon being used across many applications to match and exceed what could be achieved in QlikView.

Novo Nordisk used the extra filter options available through Vizlib Filter to match what was available in QlikView, and leveraged the Vizlib Line Chart for root cause analysis and forecasting. Custom Report in Vizlib Self-Service became a helpful tool for exploring the data behind the visualisations.

Overall, not only did Vizlib help smooth the transition from QlikView to Qlik Sense and preserve functionality, it also helped to drive user adoption across the organisation. Now Novo Nordisk’s analytics are more accessible and powerful than ever before!

Prorail

ProRail

“With Vizlib Library, we were really able to have one-for-one the same functionalities that we were used to. And it also makes it a lot easier for our users to get used to the new dashboard. So, yeah, Vizlib really helped a lot with the migration process.”

—Marten Louisse, Business Intelligence Developer, Prorail

Prorail is a government organisation that manages the Dutch national railway infrastructure. Historically, they used QlikView, which held a ‘prominent place’ for reporting and for managing KPIs.

“A couple of years ago, we did a proof of concept when we started thinking about migrating our QlikView products to Qlik Sense. But with the standard Qlik Sense functionalities, we were missing some key functionalities.” The team at ProRail was particularly concerned about losing certain conditional formatting, actions, and customisation options that were not supported in native QlikSense alone.

Luckily,  Vizlib came to the rescue! By using Vizlib Library’s powerful charts and visualisation options, Prorail were able to meet all their requirements.

Vizlib Table and Vizlib Container Grid have both been integral in bridging the move from QlikView to Qlik Sense. Prorail makes use of these features by re-creating some of their QlikView dashboards that contained many conditional show functions.

Prorail are continuing to enhance and develop their data analytics with Qlik Sense and Vizlib. To learn more about their journey, check out their story.
